Pre-Algebra
(One year course for Grade 9)
Algebra 1
(One year course for grades 9-10. Prerequisites: None
This is a first-year course in Algebra. The goal of this course
is to develop each student’s computational, critical thinking,
and problem solving skills in order to lay a strong foundation
for future math courses. The student learns the language of algebra
in verbal, graphical, and symbolic forms. Topics include the types
of numbers, equations, inequalities, polynomials, factoring, rational
and radical expressions, functions, graphs, systems of open sentences,
and linear and quadratic equations. Upon successful completion
of Algebra 1 (a grade of ‘C’ or better), the student
advances to Geometry.
Geometry
(One year course – Grades 9-11)
This is the standard college preparatory course in which students
study geometric concepts and direct and indirect proof of geometric
relationships.
Algebra 2
(One year course - Grades 10 -12 Prerequisites: A solid knowledge
of the topics covered in Algebra 1)
This course prepares students for Pre-calculus and the SAT and
ACT that are used in determining college admission. Topics include
polynomial functions and their graphs, conics, complex numbers,
linear equations and inequalities, matrix operations, exponents
and logarithms, series, sequences, combinations, probability,
statistics, rational equations, discrete math and trigonometry.
Pre-Calculus (One year course – Grades
11-12 Pre-requisites: Intermediate Algebra)
This survey course covers a variety of concepts that includes
linear algebra, logic, discrete math, proofs, vector analysis,
set theory, and math history. This course is an alternative to
the Calculus course that follows Pre-calculus.
