Not
only is CHA a school of choice, it is a place that is committed
to safety and the development of emotional intelligence. You and
your parents chose to come here and we chose to have you join our
learning community. We are a small and unique school. Respectful
behavior is essential for success at CHA which includes demonstrating
respectful behavior toward persons, places, resources and procedures.
The following expectations are required of every student, every
day.
1. Tardiness: Tardies of 30 minutes or more will be recorded as
truancy. Students arriving after the first class begins must obtain
a pass before going to class. Three tardies to any class will result
in a phone call home and a written referral documenting the dates
of each tardy will be sent by the teacher to the principal. Four
tardies in a given grading period is considered habitual tardiness.
Tardiness will affect 10% of a student’s grade which combines
academic achievement as well as citizenship.
2. Absences: PARENTS/GUARDIANS MUST REPORT ALL STUDENT ABSENCES
BY PHONE between 7:00 a.m. and noon by calling the school at 619-338-9206.
Whole day absences not cleared within 72 hours will be recorded
as truancies and cannot be cleared after that time. Period absences
may only be cleared ahead of time through the use of an excuse slip
from individual teachers. It is the student’s responsibility
to see that absences are cleared. Absences extending 3days must
have a doctor’s note. Teachers may assign a failing grade
as a result of missing too much class time and academic work. Students
who accumulate more than 15 absences in any given class within one
semester will lose credit in that class. Students receiving a grade
of A or B in a given class must have fewer than 6 absences per semester.
3. Behavioral Expectations: Student preparation is critical to the
learning process. All students are expected to come to class each
day with a writing utensil, paper and any assigned book. Teachers
will instruct students of all needed materials on the first day
of class. Consequences for failure to meet this expectation may
result in failure of the course. CHA prevention plan works as follows:
1st offense: Teacher phone call to parent/guardian.
2nd offense: Referral and second phone call to parent/guardian.
3rd offense: Conference with parent, student, teacher, principal.
4. Lunch: Lunch period is still part of the school day. You are
accountable for your behavior in the community during that time.
Smoking, fighting, or unlawful behavior will result in loss of privilege
for the remainder of the semester.
5. Late from Lunch: Late one day, stay in school for lunch the next
school day. Students arriving back to school more than 10 minutes
late, lose lunch two days. Six or more will result in permanent
loss of open campus lunch for the year. (See also the tardy policy)
6. Classroom rules: All teachers will enforce the same basic classroom
rules.
a. water only (no soda, coffee, etc. allowed in the classroom)
b. only one student out of the classroom at a time
c. students must have a restroom pass to use the restroom and water
fountain. A hall pass from the teacher must be signed before leaving
the classroom for any other reason.
d. act respectfully toward teacher, self and classmates at all times.
e. profanity is unacceptable.
Students who violate any of the above stated rules will receive
the following consequences.
1st offense: warning from teacher, throw away the item, and teacher
documentation of event 2nd offense: teacher referral and phone call
home 3rd offense: referral to principal, principal phone call home,
after school clean up duty 4th offense: loss of open campus lunch
for extended period, conference with parent
7. Dress Code: Please dress professionally. This is your workplace.
No boxers showing, no tee shirts with alcohol, tobacco, drugs, racist
or offensive messages on them, no halter tops, no low cut blouses,
no belly buttons or bra straps showing,. Skirts and shorts must
be no more than 3” above the knee cap. Wear walking shoes.
Ball caps, beanies, hoods and hats may not be worn inside the classrooms.
Exception—Friday hats may be worn. Kerchiefs and do-rags are
not allowed at school. Students will be required to correct their
appearance and in some cases may be given a T-Shirt to wear or be
fined or sent home to dress properly. Parent conference is required
after third offence.
8. Cell Phones, Pagers, Headphones, CDs or Electronics: No use allowed
in School or on Field Trips. Turn them off and put them in your
backpacks or handbags BEFORE entering the building. If in view,
items will be taken to the office. You may pick them up at the end
of the day by paying a fine of $2. Three infractions will result
in a referral and loss of privilege to use on the way to and from
school.
9. Skateboards and Bicycles: Students are allowed to use skateboards
and bicycles as a mode of transportation to and from school, however,
parents must sign a waiver to release us from any type of liability
should a student injure themselves or others due to their use or
for loss or damage to skateboard or bicycle. Students may not use
these items at any point before, after or throughout the school
day including lunch time. They are required to store skateboards
in the Principal’s office and bicycles outside chained to
the poles.
10. Classroom Clean Up & Dismissal: Clean up your area and make
the room ready for the next class. The teacher will determine when
it is time to dismiss the class.
10. Tagging or Defacing School and/or Community Property: This is
now a Zero-Tolerance issue at CHA. Owners of the school building,
the parking garage, and neighboring businesses will press charges.
The usual fine is $500. If you deface anything—book, wall,
chair, table—inside or out of the school, you will be instantly
suspended. Expulsion will follow the third suspension.
11. Academic Integrity: Plagiarism and cheating (stealing another
person’s work) is not allowed and will result in a “0”
on the assignment and a referral and or suspension.
12. Threats toward or intimidation of a teacher or staff member:
actual or perceived threats will result in immediate suspension
and likely expulsion from the program.
13. Harassment: Physical, verbal or sexual harassment which includes
bullying or intimidation towards any student is not tolerated at
CHA.
